Tip of the Week – Cheap portrait referrals

Helping your clients spread the word about yourself as easily as possible is the key to a good referral network.

A cool product

A few years ago, ProDPI came out with double sided wallets. These are press printed 2.5×3.5 cards, double sided–not traditional photographic prints. They have rounded cards, and at $18 for a set of 50, they are a pretty inexpensive custom promo piece.

When To Use Them

I don’t think it’s wise to spend an extra $18 for every single customer. But when you get those clients who love to talk–love to share the word about you–it’s the perfect time to order up 50 of these.

Give Them as a Gift After the Order

One caveat, you don’t want to give them out until after your client has made the order. The worst thing you can do is kill an order by giving them 50 free wallets, especially a high school senior–they love their wallets.

Brand the Heck Out of Them

You’ll want to brand the heck out of them. You can even put a call to action on them. For example, “Save $50 off your sitting with this card” or “Get a free HD slideshow with this card.”

Other Options

This is just one example. Use your imagination. Give out a free iPhone case with your branding with the client’s favorite image. I’m sure they will show that off. Or give out a free HD slideshow via Facebook that they can share with all their friends. The possibilities are limitless.

The key is simple: brand the heck out of something and give it free with a great order. The client will show it off and you’ll get more customers.
