I was lucky enough to speak alongside Michael Greenberg at Mystic Seminars. I was immediately struck by his unique use of light, and more importantly, his unique vision of light. He speaks often about 3D lighting. At first, this confused me, but then after seeing him speak and seeing his Flash Forward cards, I see what he means. Light is all around us and three dimensional. But when we start to think about controlling the light with off camera flash, we can truly start to create images where the light is seemingly three dimensional.
The Cards
The cards are laid out in a very simple way. On the front is the full photo. On the back is the information. The information is split up in the following manner:
1. The top diagram shows the position of the camera and all lights.
2. The middle section states the camera settings, lens and a deep discussion of the lights and the settings of the lights and exposure.
3. The bottom includes a tips section. This might be the most valuable section as it gives tips on taking the advice in the card and applying the philosophy into different situations.
