Some of you may remember we designed a 30-page playBOOK a couple weeks ago. Helping out a local photographer, we were able to organize an album we’ve never seen before and design the entire album in under 40 minutes.
Well the album has arrived. Finao was kind enough to print it up as a playBOOK for us. It arrived a couple of weeks after being ordered and the binding and printing were perfect.
What is a playBOOK?
Many of you may ask, just what is the playBOOK? Finao’s main product is the Finao One, which is a flush mount album in the traditional sense–thick pages, elegant leathers, the whole ball of wax. The playBOOK is a cheaper option for photographers that might need to offer a less expensive option. There are no boards in between the pages, which makes the pages thinner and the cost much cheaper. Yet, and here’s the kicker, the pages are true photographic prints, not press prints. I’m a big fan of photo paper in albums.
The binding is much more “album-like” than many of the press books out there. The binding boards are nice and thick and give the book a sturdy feel, even on the spine. The pages are beautiful. In larger sizes, you can add a cut out. You are restricted to Finao’s cloth choices, no leathers yet. But at this price point, it’s hard to argue. For a 10 inch, 20-page album, you’re under $100, easy.
