Featured Photographer: David Pullum

March 26, 2012

This week we have a treat for you. London wedding photographer David Pullum is our latest featured photographer and he is brilliant! David’s been shooting weddings and portraits for almost a decade, traveling throughout the UK and Europe documenting people with his fresh, unique and sometimes quirky style of photography.

We can tell this is truly his dream job and we hope you are inspired by David’s vision.

How did you get started in Photography?:

10 years ago I left working as a trader in an investment bank and moved 150 miles away. I’d never taken a picture before, but I enrolled in a course and two years later had 47 weddings booked for the year. I still pinch myself today wondering how on earth I managed that.

What has contributed to your success?:

A few people have really helped me a lot. Huy Nguyen has helped me nearly every step of the way, be it deconstructing my work or with his wise words. His Foundation workshops have transformed my images.

What is the most important thing for your continued success?:

To carry on learning, to never think you have reached your pinnacle, to be humble and to seek constructive critiques of my work from those I trust and respect. Every year I try to attend a workshop that I believe will enhance my work and make me think the next time I bring the camera to my eye.

To always invest in yourself, that’s the most important thing for any photographer who wants to reach the next level.

What is most important in your photography?:

Light, composition and reflecting the personalities of my clients. You can only do this if they like you and more importantly trust you. Once you gain their trust you can take any image you like, within reason :)

David is a fan of the Foundation Workshops, which can be found here. He also says that the photographer he wishes he could become and whose images move him the most is James Nachtwey.

Thanks for sharing David.
