We love getting great photographer recommendations from our album companies and labs, and this week’s featured photographer, Sadie & Co., came to us from Tracey over at MILK Books. Located in Auckland, New Zealand, Sadie & Co. is Tania and Simon, a dynamic duo offering a range of boutique photography services as well as a mobile photobooth built in the back of a restored 1971 Volkswagen Kombi van.
How did you get started in photography?
I studied photography through high school and then went straight to Elam School of Fine Arts at Auckland University to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After getting an opportunity to live and travel in Italy I decided to throw in art school and take my camera around Europe. I did a stint on Princess Cruises as a photographer and came back to New Zealand with a dream of working as a photographer full time. It took another eight years to eventuate and here I am running my dream business with my partner Simon.
What has contributed to your success?
Hard, hard work and a realistic approach.
What is the most important thing for your continued success?
The right attitude. Things don’t always go to plan, some months we struggle, some months are hectic and amazing. As long as you remember the end goal and why you started your business in the first place, you’ll be successful.
What’s the best business advice you’ve ever received?
To follow your instincts. You know your business better than anyone else.
What is most important in your photography?
Emotion and light. Both are equally important and I couldn’t do what I do without them.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
We are continuously learning and I think it is so important for your creativity and the health of your business to spend time networking and learning from people around you. We take every opportunity we can to collaborate and work with other people in our industry and beyond. Our business couldn’t survive without it.
