Lightroom 5 has been out for a few weeks and I’m just getting around to playing with it. My first impression is that it is smoking fast. But what’s new? What’s worth paying for the upgrade? Here are my three favorite new features.
The Healing Brush
In the photo below you can see the rock, the cigarette butt and the strange reflection in the window just to the lower left of the model.
With the new healing brush option (we used to only have the clone brush), you can literally fix trash, pimples, etc., with just a click.
The Auto Straighten
Now this is just straight up voodoo magic. No idea how this works or why it works. But when you go into the crop mode, then go down to lens correction there is an Auto mode that will straighten all straight lines. How does it know? No idea…

Radial Filter
I think this is my favorite new feature, the radial filter. It basically lets you edit everything outside of the filter–perfect for vignette anywhere.
Pre-vignette
Post-vignette
So what happens when you put it all together?
Here is a before edit.
And an after edit.
I recommend giving it a try. See more on the Adobe site.
